Deputy leader Nipit Intarasombat claims breakaway Democrat Suthep Thaugsuban and his new ACT (inset) won't hurt the country's oldest political party - much. This is because the party's long-established reputation takes precedence over that of individual candidates, Mr Nipit told the Bangkok Post yesterday. Therefore, when party members defect to other parties, they are unlikely to get reelected under the banner of other parties, Mr Nipit said. Mr Nipit also said the ACT Party may only aim to secure party list seats because it could not rival the Democrats for seats in constituencies in the southern provinces which are the Democrats' traditional stronghold. Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said yesterday he welcomed the inauguration of the ACT Party.
